Career counseling can provide you with a confidence boost, answers to your questions, strategies for improving your job search or career choice, and much more! If you would like to be happier in your work life or more successful in your job search, consider meeting with me to explore a new way for getting there. See my FAQs page for reasons why career counseling is helpful and for more details about my specialties.

Individual Counseling Appointments

Whether you'd like to bounce your ideas off me, troubleshoot your job search, create a plan, or just plain get inspired, a one-on-one counseling session can be invaluable. Come and see me if you'd like to:

  • Explore your career dreams and life purpose.
  • Relieve stress about work problems.
  • Get support and practical advice.
  • Move past your fears.
  • Get help brainstorming possibilities and solutions.
  • Develop an action plan for work or education.
  • Get a confidence boost and a shot of hope.
  • Improve your work/life balance.

Appointments are typically 60 minutes in length. Longer sessions of 90 minutes or 2 hours are also available. There is no minimum number of sessions required.

Career Assessment Testing

If you have trouble imagining what your "dream job" might be, or have an inkling but would like some confirmation, consider taking career assessment tests. Testing is especially useful when you'd like to:

  • Discover new careers you hadn’t thought of before that would be a good match to your talents and preferences.
  • Confirm your ideas about careers you have thought about, but are unsure about pursuing.
  • Develop a checklist for identifying your “dream job” so you know what questions to ask while researching it.
  • Know yourself better so you can more accurately plan your transition to retirement, re-entry to the workforce, or return to school.

I offer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the Strong Interest Inventory, two well-known standardized tests that provide lists of job titles compatible with who you are. The Myers-Briggs assesses personality style, and the Strong categorizes your top areas of interest. I also provide tests that assess your preferred skills and motivating values. Together, the results of these 4 tests provide the characteristics of a best-fit career, and will help you zero in on compatible jobs and employers. Additionally, the test reports provide descriptive phrases about your strengths that can be woven into your resume and cover letter.

Career testing is typically a 3-appointment package, but each test can be taken individually if you don't want to take them all. I can also help with interpreting tests you've taken before if you did not previously receive an individualized interpretation.

Job Search Advice & Support

It is challenging to launch and run a job search campaign in tough economic times. If your strategies aren't working, we can kick around ideas for achieving greater success. I will teach you practical skills and techniques for exploring the job market, networking, writing resumes, and preparing for interviews. I can show you how to tailor your resume to look like a good fit for a specific job and teach you how to answer tricky interview questions. A one-hour appointment may be all you need to get revitalized, or if you prefer, I can coach you throughout each stage of your campaign.

Resume Critique & Re-design

I can help you improve your self-marketing materials – your resume, cover letter, or statement-of-purpose essay for applying to college. You'll achieve better results when you learn how to write from your reader's perspective and know what they want to see. I'll teach you how to tailor your resume for each job posting in order to look like a good match and how to avoid the classic pitfalls that hurt a candidate's chances.

Life Purpose Exploration

If you've always felt that you have a personal mission, but aren't sure what it is, consider some testing to reveal the elements of your life's purpose. Each of us has innate talents and preferences, yet too many of us struggle with identifying our strengths and motivating values. Taking a few tests and having some in-depth discussion about what is most meaningful to you can unlock the mystery. Define what a meaningful or purpose-driven life is for you, and develop a plan for living the life you've always wanted.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Testing & Interpretation

If you have ever wanted to know your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® results, either for personal growth or for career choice purposes, I can provide that for you. I have over 12 years of experience in interpreting and explaining Myers-Briggs scores to adults who wanted to know themselves better, improve their communications and relationships with others, select a better-fit career, or learn about their natural strengths. (See my FAQs page for more about this test.)
